Amazing Shake

The 5th annual Amazing Shake was held at SMS on January 20th and 21st.

Congratulations to the 160 SMS students who participated in this opportunity. The top 11 students (Drew Bishop, Kendyl Boswell, Caleb Cox, Gracie Hopkins, Asher Horton, Peyton Hunter, Abigail Johanningsmeier, Carlie Nichols, Maeve Sawin, Abigail Smitson, and Max West) competed in the finals on Wednesday afternoon. Gracie Hopkins was the overall SMS winner and Caleb Cox was the runner-up, so both of them will participate in the global finals in Atlanta this spring.

Thank you to the 75+ volunteers who made the experience so memorable for the participants and to Mayor Amick for having breakfast with the kids on Wednesday.

Special thanks to Empower, Mrs. Comer, Mr. Hicks, and Mrs. Jackson for all their time and effort to coordinate the event for our students.

Speed and Strength Training

Winter Warrior speed and strength training is available for any SMS student who is planning to play football in 2026. Sessions will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. Rides must pick up students at door 12 at 4:30 p.m.
SMS students who are not currently in a winter sport and would like to participate in the weight training need to wear appropriate shoes and athletic attire. They can ride one of the SHS shuttles (V3 or V4) to the high school for these afternoon sessions.

grading periods

SMS Grading Periods

Scottsburg MS students receive report cards six times throughout the school year. Our current grading period will end on Friday, February 20th.
The grades on that report card, which will be published on Wednesday, February 25th, determine students' eligibility for extracurricular activities until the next report card is issued in mid April.

The grades from our third six weeks will be averaged with course grades from the fourth six weeks to calculate trimester grades.
The grade point average of the trimester grades is what we use to determine medal awards at the end of each school year.

SMS Athletics

Our basketball and cheer season is wrapping up.
Wrestling events will continue throughout February.
Swimming is just starting.

Eventlink is how you can stay up to date with all schedules, practices, games, tryouts, and how coaches will send team messages, so it is important to get your account set up.

More information will be coming from coaches to parents as we approach each sports season.

Students should listen to the afternoon announcements for more information about practices and competitions.

If you have questions about athletics, please contact Mrs. King at 812-752-8926 option 2.
