Halfway Day

Our sixth graders celebrated halfway day on Tuesday, January 6th, which marks the midpoint of their K-12 educational career. They enjoyed a trivia contest, seeing pictures from kindergarten through fifth grade, and playing egg roulette.

Thank you to the sixth grade teachers for preparing the fun activities for our students. Special thanks to Mr. Heacock for serving as the emcee for the event.

Speed and Strength Training

Winter Warrior speed and strength training is available for any SMS student who is planning to play football in 2026. Sessions will take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. Rides must pick up students at door 12 at 4:30 p.m.
SMS students who are not currently in a winter sport and would like to participate in the weight training need to wear appropriate shoes and athletic attire. They can ride one of the SHS shuttles (V3 or V4) to the high school for these afternoon sessions.

grading periods

SMS Grading Periods

Scottsburg MS students receive report cards six times throughout the school year. Our third grading period ended last Friday, January 9th.
The grades on that report card, which will be published on Wednesday, January 14th, determine students' eligibility for extracurricular activities until the next report card is issued in late February.

The grades from our third six weeks will be averaged with course grades from the fourth six weeks to calculate trimester grades.
The grade point average of the trimester grades is what we use to determine medal awards at the end of each school year.

Amazing Shake

Amazing Shake

The Amazing Shake is coming back to SMS on January 20th.

What is the Amazing Shake?
The Amazing Shake is a fun event that tests students' resilience and essential skills for success: communication, discipline, professionalism, and confidence/charisma.

Students will work their way through a variety of real-world scenarios that foster positive and professional relationships with members of our community.

The best part...this competition is open to ALL of our students. No exceptions. Just potential.

What can you expect?
A supportive community rooting for you and a day full of surprises.
SMS will have a lunch session next week for all students who sign up to participate in the Amazing Shake. Those who attend the lunch session will learn helpful tips and tricks for the competition.

Note: This year's champion and runner up will have the opportunity to participate in the Global Amazing Shake Competition at the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia.

Sign up via the SMS Community page in Canvas until Tuesday, January 13th. See Mr. Hicks or Mrs. Jackson with any questions.

Eventlink is how you can stay up to date with all schedules, practices, games, tryouts, and how coaches will send team messages, so it is important to get your account set up.

More information will be coming from coaches to parents as we approach each sports season.

Students should listen to the afternoon announcements for more information about practices and competitions.

If you have questions about athletics, please contact Mrs. King at 812-752-8926 option 2.
