SMS 8th graders will have vision screenings on Wednesday, October 8th.

We always appreciate the community volunteers who help us complete this process.

Ms. Jenna Ford, one of our teachers for students with special needs, coordinates our Warrior Buddies program at SMS. Her efforts provide an opportunity for several SMS students to volunteer in her classroom periodically.

Last Thursday the Warrior Buddies helped make snack boxes that Ms. Ford's class created for adults at SMS.

The lost and found between the east and west gyms is getting large, so please have your student check the lost and found.

If you are missing an item, please ask your student to check lost and found or call the school.

As shown on our district calendar, all Scott 2 schools will be on fall break from Monday, October 13th through Friday, October 17th.

A small portion of the November 10th professional development activities for SMS teachers will be focused on providing safe, secure, educational uses for AI.

Our fall sports season is nearly over and our winter sports season is quickly approaching.

The SMS winter sports are basketball, cheerleading, swimming, and wrestling.

Please review the following requirements for sports eligibility:

1. Grades - To be eligible for this winter season, students must have passed ALL of their classes for the 1st grading period.

2. Physicals - Physicals must be on file with our middle school athletic department. If you need physical paperwork then you can visit our office or our SMS website. (Physicals must be on file BEFORE Tryouts or practices begin to participate.)

3. Final Forms - You must have your Final Forms account updated for this school year. Click HERE to access the Final Forms page from our SMS Website. 

4. Eventlink - You will need to download the Eventlink app or use the Eventlink website to create/log-in to an Eventlink account. Once you are logged in, please follow/subscribe to Scottsburg Middle School and select the teams that you would to receive sports information/announcements from coaches. Eventlink is how you can stay up to date with all schedules, practices, games, tryouts, and how coaches will send team messages, so it is important to get your account set up.

5. When does practice begin? - Our winter sports begin at different times and that is why it is imperative that you get your Eventlink account updated so you can see and know all information that is needed. 

6. Basketball Tryouts - 6th grade girls, 7th grade boys/girls, and 8th grade boys/girls tryouts are Monday, Oct. 20 - Wednesday, Oct. 22. Official practice begins on Thursday, Oct. 23. 6th grade boys tryouts are Monday, Oct. 27 - Wednesday, Oct. 29. Official practice begins on Thursday, Oct. 30.

More information will be coming from coaches to parents as we approach each sports season. 

Students should listen to the afternoon announcements for more information about practices and competitions.

Scott County residents who need Christmas assistance from the Salvation Army angel tree program can complete the online application starting on October 1st or can apply in person at 485 Mann Avenue in Austin on October 6th. If you prefer the in-person option, please call 812-944-1018 to make an appointment.

Scottsburg MS students receive report cards six times throughout the school year. Our second grading period ends on Friday, November 7th.

The grades on that report card, which will be published on Wednesday, November 12th, determine students' eligibility for extracurricular activities until the next report card is issued in mid-January.

The grades from our first six weeks will be averaged with course grades from the second six weeks to calculate trimester grades.

The grade point average of the trimester grades is what we use to determine medal awards at the end of each school year.

For those of you who want/need to plan ahead, here are some important dates for the 2025-2026 school year:

October 13-17 - no school

November 10 - no school

November 26-28 - no school

December 22-January 2 - no school

January 19 - no school

February 23 - no school

March 23-27 - no school

May 21 - last day of school

If your child did not turn in the school-issued iPad charger in May, he/she did not receive a charger on August 6th. If you would like to purchase a replacement charger, a used one costs $10 and a new one costs $24.

Chargers can be purchased in the SMS office.

The Scottsburg MS student handbook contains some updates for the 2025-2026 school year. Most of the changes took place in the schedule and attendance sections.

We encourage you to read the handbook with your child(ren) and to contact us with any questions you may have.

Scott 2 is fortunate to have the opportunity to offer free breakfast and lunch to all of our students this year.

Please remember that students must have money in their cafeteria account if they want a second tray, extras, or items from the snack line.

Like many schools, we occasionally experience some supply/distribution delays. We will follow the posted menus when possible, but will have to make adjustments at times.
