Start With Hello

Start With Hello creates a culture of kindness and belonging for elementary, middle, and high school students. The program is designed around three goals, which are accomplished using the program's framework and reinforced throughout the program cycle.
Goals
The three goals of the Start With Hello program are to teach students how to recognize loneliness and social isolation in their peers, help their peers who may be lonely and/or socially isolated, and grow an empathetic/inclusive community.
Program Framework
The goals are accomplished using our three-step program framework:
  1. See Someone Alone: Learn to understand social isolation, empathize with those who may feel alone, learn how "healthy alone time" is different, and emphasize the importance of connection.
  2. Reach Out and Help: Develop strategies for connecting with others and ways to alleviate anxiety about reaching out.
  3. "Start with Hello": Apply methods to include others, build lasting relationships and support a connected and inclusive school and community.

art club

Art Club

The application process is now open for students who are interested in being considered for participation in the art club that Mr. Heacock sponsors at SMS each year. The deadline to submit your application is Friday, September 19th.
Please note that space is limited to 30 students, so be sure to put forth your best effort on the application.
grading periods

SMS Grading Periods

Scottsburg MS students receive report cards six times throughout the school year. Our first grading period will end this Friday, September 19th, so we only have five days left in the first grading period.
The grades on that report card, which will be created and published on Wednesday, September 24th, determine students' eligibility for extracurricular activities until the next report card is issued in mid-November.

The grades from our first six weeks will be averaged with course grades from the second six weeks to calculate trimester grades.
The grade point average of the trimester grades is what we use to determine medal awards at the end of each school year.

Reminder About Grades

We encourage parents to check their child's grades and progress reports in Harmony Family Access at least weekly. Parents can also set up notifications in Harmony Family Access if you would like automated updates about your child's grades.

In addition, we encourage parents to check their child's Canvas courses regularly. You can set up a parent observer account or you can have your child show you their courses in Canvas.

If you need any assistance with Harmony Family Access or Canvas, please call, email, or stop by the SMS office. We are open each weekday from 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Students should listen to the afternoon announcements for more information about practices and competitions.

In order to participate in sports, students must have a physical on file and their parent/guardian must complete the FinalForms process.
Eventlink will still be the platform that we use to communicate with parents/family members regarding practices and events.

If you have questions about athletics, please contact Mrs. King at 812-752-8926 option 2.

Food Services

Scott 2 is fortunate to have the opportunity to offer free breakfast and lunch to all of our students this year.
Check out this link for breakfast and lunch menus.

Please remember that students must have money in their cafeteria account if they want a second tray, extras, or items from the snack line.

Like many schools, we occasionally experience some supply/distribution delays. We will follow the posted menus when possible, but will have to make adjustments at times.
