The Scottsburg Middle School Handbook has several important updates for the 2022-2023 school year. Students and their parents are encouraged to review the handbook prior to starting school. Knowledge of operating procedures and expectations will give all parties a head start on success at Scottsburg Middle School.

Discipline

SMS will start utilizing a progressive discipline model in the 2022-2023 school year.  This approach brings multiple changes to the disciplinary consequences.  Admin will review the updates with students during the first week of school.

Dress Code

SMS has high standards for student appearance. The dress code is designed to

• reduce distractions that interfere with the educational process,
• protect student health and safety,
• promote positive student interactions, and
• prepare students for a working world where appearance may not be their choice.

A detailed description of the dress code is available in the handbook. Families that need assistance with dress code requirements are asked to contact a school counselor.
